ABOUT ME

Hi, I'm Aaron Hinnah

Hello, my name is Aaron Hinnah, and I am running for Iowa House of Representatives for District 88, serving Mahaska, Keokuk, and Jefferson counties. The most important thing to know about me is that my life is centered on family. I am blessed to be married to my high school sweetheart, Emily, who truly is the glue that holds our family together. She is a former special education teacher in the Pekin and Oskaloosa school districts and now stays home to raise our four children so I can pursue my passion for teaching and working in sports as a college professor at William Penn University in the Sport Management program.  I have also presented research nationally within the Sports Recreation and Law Association on sport facility management and safety, as well as research on youth sport burnout. Before transitioning to my current role at WPU, I spent nearly 10 years in the university’s education department, working in post-secondary teacher preparation. During that time, I helped bring the TPRA grant to WPU, a program that has supported many licensed teachers now serving schools across Mahaska, Keokuk, and Jefferson counties.  I strongly believe in lifelong learning. I have earned four degrees, including two master’s degrees in sport management and business leadership. Most importantly, I am a proud father to AJ (10), Ellianah (7), Mayah (4), and Mikayah (1), who attend Oskaloosa Schools.Sports have always been a major part of my life. I played college baseball at Iowa State University and have coached football at the NCAA Division I level. I was also part of a conference championship staff at the NAIA level here at William Penn University and have coached high school football and softball at my alma mater, Sigourney-Keota.I currently serve as Vice President of the Oskaloosa Community School District Board, a board member of the Mahaska County Farm Bureau, and a member of the Iowa High School Athletic Directors Association.  In my spare time, I help with our family farming operation in Keokuk County alongside my parents. Emily and I also own and operate Hinnah Tree Service here in Oskaloosa, proudly serving local families and helping improve properties throughout our community.  I look forward to continuing to serve my community and to help education succeed as I have for the entirety of my career.  Thank you!
